I recently had the pleasure of listening to a webinar hosted by Vertical Measures which featured SEOmoz CEO Rand Fishkin. The topic was link building for 2010 which featured some interesting tactics around viral link building campaigns, partnership link building, among others.  During the presentation Rand made a “mistake” and flashed a picture of an upcoming tool which SEOmoz is currently developing.  Interestingly enough, he did this during a viral link building presentation.  Obviously Rand’s intention was for the screen grab to go viral.  He get’s his wish beyond the fold, including some insight on what the tool does and how it can potentially be useful.

At first glance, the new SEOmoz tool looks very much like a competitive link research tool.  As you can see in the image below, the tool allows you to enter a URL or multiple URLs.  It has all the basic functionality of your usual competitive link tool such as page authority, domain authority, links to the home page, deep links, total links, etc…An example of a previously released and very useful competitive research tool is SEO Spy Glass.

In addition to normal features you would expect to see this new SEOmoz tool provides “anchor text distribution” data.  This is most likely implementing features in SEOmoz’s already existing backlink analysis tool.  There is also a “full list of link metrics” feature but because the sneak peak is not interactive, we are unable to see what these are.  This new SEOmoz tool does implement a feature that is very rare to see in competitive link research available to the public…i.e not a proprietary tool.  It allows you see whether the links are followed, no-followed, or the result of a 301 redirect.  Some tools tell you whether or not a link is followed but very rare will check each link to see if it is the result of a 301 redirect.  This type of data could potentially be very useful in crafting a custom built link building strategy.  A final feature of this new SEOmoz tool that I’m really looking forward to is the ability to export to Excel.  This enables custom filtering of the data which is extremely important.

SEO for Beginners Tip: This tool and other like it can also be used to ideas of places to build links for your current clients.  In order to do this simply search for the keyword you want to rank for and record who is ranking in positions 1,2, and 3.  Enter those URLs into the competitive research tool you are using.  Comb the list for the best links that fit your link building strategy.

LG W2353V Review

I recently decided it was time for a monitor upgrade.  For the past 4 years I have been using the Hanns-G HN199D.  It was an excellent monitor, with no problems to speak of.  There were a few key features I was looking for in a monitor that the Hanns-G lacked:  Full HD resolution, HDMI inputs, and Widescreen.  The LG W2353V monitor has those and more.  Please  read on and check out my LG W2353V review.

First let’s check out the pros and cons of the LG W2353V monitor:

LG W2353V Pros: Full HD Resolution:  This is excellent for Gaming and watching movies.  Paired with a good graphics card, this monitor delivers stunning realism and performance in gaming and produces great quality when watching movies.  I was especially impressed with this monitor when it came to watching streaming internet videos on Youtube, Hulu, etc…

High Contrast Ratio: The LG W2353V has an extremely high digital fine contrast ratio of 50,000 to 1.  This was one of the highest contrast ratios I could find in a monitor, especially for the price.  This contrast ratio leads to an additional sharpness and color definition.

Response Time:  The response time on this monitor is 2ms.  This is amazing for gaming including first person shooters and sports games, as well as for streaming Full HD quality video over the internet.

Low Power Usage:  While I wouldn’t classify myself as a green gamer, I do have to mention that the power consumption of this monitor is extremely low, only 42W during typical usage.  Thats less than my desk lamp!

LG W2353V Cons: I only have two initial complaints about this monitor.  The first is that the monitor stand seems rather flimsy.  This could partially be because this LG is very light weight.  Either way I feel as though I was going to knock it over easily when i was setting it up.  Also sometimes when I type the monitor moves slightly on some occasions.  This could also be because of the quality of my computer desk.  The second con to the LG W2353V is the fact that it didn’t come with a DVI cable.  This monitor supports VGA/DVI/HDMI connections, but only came with one VGA cable.  Given the price range of this monitor I wasn’t expecting an HDMI cord to be included but at least a DVI cable.

I shopped all over for different monitors from different vendors and ended up with the LG W2353V.  I purchased it from Frys for $220.  I was also impressed with Frys overall.  It did take me 15 minutes to find the monitor section, lol, but once I did, they have tons of monitors displayed with computers that had good graphics cards to show the monitors off.  It was kind of like a Brick and Mortar Tiger Direct or New Egg.
